A better solution for steel mill safety and maintenance!
  • designed specifically for viewing the thermal characteristics of steel mill torpedo cars
  • infrared temperature data can be sent directly to your SQL database
  • The most versatile thermal imaging system on the market!
  • Thermal imager camera technology provides superior image quality to line scanning pyrometer technology

The IRCON Torpedo Car Inspection System uses advanced thermal imaging and software to provide steel mill operators a real tool for examining their torpedo car fleet. With options such as single and dual camera inputs, I/O for alarming capabilities, and thermal fingerprinting to identify each car the IRCON Torpedo Car Inspection System can help to reduce maintenance costs and improve plant safety.

Torpedo Car Inspection System Features and Benefits

  • Single or Dual Cameras - Dual thermal imaging cameras mounted at the pour station give the operator the ability to to view thermal images of the the sides, top and bottom of the car. Not everyone has the space or the money for dual camera systems. Our software will also work with a single thermal imaging camera mounted at the pour area. As the car rotates the single camera can view the entire outside shell of the car.

  • No Tachometer Necessary - Ircon's Torpedo Car Inspection Software uses advanced algorithms to detect the size and shape of the car as it passes. Tachometer inputs to adjust for varying speed (common with line scanning systems) are not needed with this product. Measuring different styles of torpedo cars at varied speeds is easy!

  • Thermal Fingerprinting - The Thermal Fingerprinting feature allows users to identify each torpedo car by painted on or raised lettering on the shell of the car. Thermal fingerprinting lets steel mills get rid of RF tag readers which are commonly used to identify cars.

  • Trend Algorithms - Maximum shell temperature of each car can be trended over time to see if hotspots are forming. One of the biggest causes of error for thermographers is the environmental effects of snow, rain, and wind, which all can cause errors in data. Ircon's specially designed trend algorithm corrects for these effects ensuring that your temperature data is accurate over time.
